The simple answer is to avoid sitting. Only sit to eat and when a task requires sitting and when you do have to sit, get up every 15 minutes and walk for one minute.
Otherwise try and keep on your feet as much as possible. When you are tired of standing, your body is telling you to take a break, so have a 5 minute lie down. Lying on the couch is fine.
Sitting is an inefficient way of nurturing the recovery process because it increases the internal pressure in our spinal joints (discs) compared to standing. Also, our protective (core) muscles tend to switch off while sitting, putting yet more load on the joints.
